Retire2 - Norfolk

NORFOLK

Norfolk has an unfortunate reputation of being flat and dull…..with the exception of the Broads which are perceived to be a cheap playground for people in floating caravans.

Well, it is quiet. There are fewer people living in Norfolk now than in mediaeval times. It has as many miles of motorway as the Outer Hebrides and really good restaurants are thin on the ground. But if your retirement plans major on walking or cycling in beautiful, pastoral countryside, sailing, fishing, or living in a region rich in history and ancient architecture then Norfolk is worth considering and you’ll be sharing it with far fewer people than in most rural counties. It’s not flat, either. It doesn’t have a mountain to its name but there are attractive river valleys, a stunning coastline and gentle, undulating countryside in the centre of the county. The Broads are as busy as ever but the cruisers are lavish and expensive making it an upmarket holiday and, conscious of this, Broadland is repackaging itself as a wildlife resort. The North Norfolk coast between Hunstanton and Cley-next-the-Sea has been a second home venue for Londoners for years but now they’re moving inland and further east and property prices in accessible and desirable areas are going up fast.
